Force time display in hours, not days

Hi,

I'm trying out FogBugz 6 and have searched around for this request on this discussion board but come up with nothing.

Essentially, right now the "Estimate" section for a ticket looks something like this:

Estimate
original: 11 hours
current: 1.54 days
elapsed: 1.15 days
remaining: 5 hours

When I want all times to be displayed in hours:

Estimate
original: 11 hours
current: 20 hours
elapsed: 15 hours
remaining: 5 hours

I guess this would be an easy code modification if we had the installable version, but for now we're testing with the online version and would like a setting for it.

+1 to this.

I have my day set to 4 hours, which gives me half the day to do all the non-developer stuff.  But the moment I put 5 hours for a task getting it escalated to 1.x days is hard to cope with.

In reality I don't spend exactly half a day, every day, developing.  Some days is a full day, other days I'm out selling, or whatever, for the whole day.

Perhaps unit-conversion from hours-to-days could only occur when the amount gets to, say, 4 days or 99 hours, or somesuch?

+1. Everyone on my team hates it that FB takes their careful (and collaborative) hourly estimates and changes them to days.

I also find it somewhat surprising given Joel has always preached estimating in hours.

"This is the most important part to making your schedule work. Your tasks should be measured in hours, not days. (When you see a schedule measured in days, or even weeks, it's probably not real)." - FogBugz 6.0 Documentation

Add my vote on this one. I hacked it in there, but hate putting custom hacks into my installation. It was much easier in FB2 because there was a DB entry for #hours/day (which I set to 9999999 to get around this issue)

Sorry. I meant FB5, not FB2.

+1 for me as well.  I have been waiting to see if a FogCreek person might respond to this discussion.

I find it confusing to have to keep multiplying (or dividing) these numbers by 8 to put it into perspective.  It's even worse thinking about the minutes and having to add minutes to hours or hours to days to come up with the real total in whatever units you are using between your ears.

I would vote for some optional setting that overrides the current behavior with uniform units of time.  For example: time format = 99.9 hours to indicate all times shown (and rounded) to tenths of an hour (or whatever industry standard syntax is appropriate for this kind of format mask).

A site-level setting available to the FB administrator would probably be easiest for FC to implement but an optional user-level preference which overrides this further might be a nice touch.  Assuming the implementation of time conversion (i.e. the numbers into text) is in one place this should not be a very difficult enhancement.

I agree that the hours-to-day conversion is confusing.  For the record, the current behavior is that FogBugz uses the Site Working Schedule to convert hours to days, and ignores the EBS factors.

I've opened a case with the developers to add this option, and/or see if we can figure out a better way to handle this situation.
