A forum for technical support discussion related to Fogbugz.
Is it possible to run FB 3 and 4 on the same machine? I think it should be possible, but my main concerns are over the Dispatcho service. Presumably there can only be one of these running at a time, and hence only servicing one of the two installations.
Is this right? If so, is there any way around it and running two instances?
Dispatcho was for version 3 and we left it in version 4 even though it has been supplanted by the FogBugz Maintenance Service, for this very reason. You can have 3 and 4 on the same machine and it won't cause any problems. (One instance of Dispatcho or FogBugzMaint will look after all installations on the machine (on windows)).
Actually, not so great.
The install of 4 on a 3 machine failed (with the error on http://www.fogcreek.com/FogBugz/KB/errors/GrantLogin.html ), so we cancelled the setup, it rolled back, and now our 3 installation only responds to browser requests intermittently (in particular it fails to redirect after submitting any form, the browser just sits and spins).
Additionally, our Event Viewer Application Log is chock-a-block (a hundred or more entries per minute) with "information" reports like this:
"The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( FogBugz ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: FogBugz message, Cookies empty, so we looked for person variables in Session object."
but with a different FogBugz message per item.
So I'm guessing the cancel of the 4 installation removed some componenet of 3. Any ideas what it could have been and how we can fix it?
Run register.bat in the FogBugz3\Accessories folder, and restart IIS. Also, if there is a key called Logging at HKLM\Software\Fog Creek Software\FogBugz (exactly at that location), make sure it's value is 0. That key is making those events appear in the event viewer.
