Inserting a link to a local file

Can I insert a link to a local file instead of attaching the file to a case? An URL like http://www.link.com works but a link like file://c:\localfile.txt doesn't.

Personally, I don't think I would want that local file link in there...especially since it would only work for (probably) the originator of the case or those who edit it.

Hi Pavel-
Are you saying you want to link to a file on the FogBugz host, or on the user's computer?

Hi Brett,
I'd like to link to a file on a server in company's local network. Small files can be attached but in case of large files I'd prefer linking to them. Of course it'd be applicable only if all users have access to the local network.

... an example - A tester reports five bugs all of them occured during performing the same (quite complex) test scenario documented in a file on a file server. He wants to refer to the file when describing the reproduction steps of the bugs.

Hi Pavel-
That might be a case for allowing file:// - type links in FogBugz. One way around it for the time being might be to allow IIS instances on the hosts where those files reside to serve them via HTTP. Another might be to modify the regular expressions in TranslateTextIntoLinks in util.asp to accept file:// links as well.
We'll think it through and consider it for the next release.
