About a week ago email notifications suddenly stopped working on our FogBugz installation (4.0.11). This goes for both in and outgoing mails.
I did notice an inital, cryptic "SMTP Overflow" message briefly flashed in the regular GUI. (I forget where exactly, it wasn't on heartbeat.asp)
I've run through the checklist and SMTP server etc seems to run fine - heartbeat.asp stops with two different error messages, which I've forwarded to you...
Any thoughts on what to look for?
Wow, you really start to realise how critical email notifications are when they're suddenly gone...
Not good - I changed the 2 CInt() instances to CLng() and http://localhost/heartbeat.asp never returns...
w3wp.exe process just seems to run in an infinite loop, using up > 70% of the CPU.
Maybe there's a log somewhere or tables I should check?
First, try turning off Bayesian sorting, by selecting "Manually " rather than "FogBugz Autosort" on your mailboxes. Then see if there might be a Bayesian training request caught in the queue by running "SELECT * FROM TrainingRequest". If there is anything in TrainingRequest, delete it. Then try running heartbeat manually again, making sure the maintenance service is turned off. Does any of that help?
Bingo. Email is back on!
There were a couple of rows in TrainRequest, probably AutoSort was the culprit...?
A couple of incoming mails did come with some large attachments, maybe there's a subtle parser bug somewhere...
At any rate, I always seem to underestimate the complexities in building robust generalised email interfaces into my own applications (encoding formats, timezones, attachments, improper formatting, protocol deviations etc etc)
