conversion of file:/// into hyperlink FB5

We are useing Fogbuz Version 5.0.17 (DB 502).

We are wanting to control requirments through fogbugz, but the capture is be done in word documents.

I am trying to create a bookmark in a word document which is held on a networked drive, then link to it in fogbugz.

My first problem is that the file:///<path to mydoc.doc> is not being translated into a hyperlink by fogbugz in the same way that http:// gets translated.

Is this possible, and has anyone achieved this?

We ran into this problem on a WikiMedia wiki.  If you are trying to link to a file on a network share, the only way we could get it to work was to refer to it like this.

You can actually change all the back slashes to forward slashes if you like, and it will still work, but it doesn't change the fact that you need five slashes of some sort between the colon and the server name if you want to connect to Microsoft type of network share.

This works for us on both IE and Firefox browsers on Windows.  Will not work on Macs, of course.

I've tried that but fogbugz doesn't automatically convert that into a hyperlink.
It's not that it converts it into a hyperlink that doesn't work, its that it doesnt convert it at all.

Hi Michael,

The functions which do automatic URL linking in FogBugz cases are TranslateTextIntoLinks / TranslateTextIntoLinksImpl in Website\util.asp.  Automatic file: hyperlinking was disabled in FogBugz 4.0 "for security reasons", according to a comment in those functions.

Hope that helps,
